NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) expressed its support of the America’s Climate Security Act during testimony before a U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Private Sector and Consumer Solutions for Global Warming and Wildlife Protection in Washington, D.C.

Speaking at a conference on climate change sponsored by the United Nations, Alcoa Chairman and CEO Alain Belda told a plenary session audience that he is convinced a global plan of action on climate change can be built in ways that create more economic opportunities than risks.
Mr. Belda said global businesses such as Alcoa want to see development by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change of a flexible, multilateral framework, which recognizes the diversity among major economies and establishes fair, effective, and binding international commitments for all major emitting countries.

The Role of Leadership in Achieving Sustainability
On February 9, 2007, Alain Belda, Chairman and CEO of Alcoa Inc., spoke at the Amcham-China and US Embassy "Leadership in Sustainability” Forum in Beijing, China.
Mr. Belda noted, "This is a critical global issue which requires leadership from every sector of society. Alcoa believes that sustainable companies are just that - sustainable in the long term. For Alcoa sustainability means that our social, environmental, and economic impacts are important beyond branding or having the NGO community recognize us for trying to do the right thing.
